The La Mesa Model Railroad Club has created a highly accurate HO scale representation of the Southern Pacific-Santa Fe joint line between California's central valley at Bakersfield, and the city of Mojave over Tehachapi Pass.
Our club is located in the San Diego Model Railroad Museum within San Diego's scenic Balboa Park.
Per the map, we model as accurately as possible the 68 miles of railroad between Bakersfield and Mojave, California. Due to some space constraints, we have had to compress some sections, but we still have over 30 scale miles of mainline track.
Thanks LMMRRC member Tim Smith for rendering this map.
Please enjoy this video depicting the history of our club, its origins in the San Diego suburb of La Mesa, and its transition to our current exhibit in the San Diego Model Railroad Museum.
One of the essential elements of the La Mesa Model Railroad Club is operation according to real-world railroad practices. Several times each year, we turn our exhibit into a massive simulator in scale, running trains according to 1950's era Timetables and Train Orders, or more recent 80s, 90s or modern day Track Warrant practices and associated equipment. See our Photo Gallery below for more details, or attend an op-session in person!
The La Mesa Model Railroad Club is proud to be part of the broader group of exhibitor clubs within the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. With over 27,000 square feet of model railroads in all popular scales, there's plenty to see!
